“Soldier” is a 1998 American science fiction action film directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and written by David Webb Peoples. The film stars Kurt Russell as Sergeant Todd 3465, a soldier trained from birth to be an emotionless warrior. After being defeated by a new breed of genetically engineered soldiers, Todd is discarded on a waste planet and left for dead. He soon interacts with a group of crash survivors who lead a peaceful existence. The peace is disrupted when the new soldiers arrive to eliminate the colony, prompting Todd to defend his new home.
The supporting cast includes Jason Scott Lee as Caine 607, Jason Isaacs as Colonel Mekum, Connie Nielsen as Sandra, and Gary Busey as Captain Church.
Upon its release on October 23, 1998, “Soldier” received generally negative reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office, grossing approximately $14.6 million worldwide against a production budget of $60 million.
