Rambo III (1988)
Rambo III (1988) is an action film directed by Peter MacDonald and is the third installment in the Rambo series, following First Blood (1982) and Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985). Starring Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, the film centers on the Vietnam War veteranβs mission to rescue his former commanding officer, Colonel Sam Trautman (Richard Crenna), who has been captured by Soviet forces in Afghanistan.
The story begins with John Rambo living in a Buddhist monastery in Thailand, having distanced himself from combat. However, when his old friend and mentor, Colonel Sam Trautman, is captured by Soviet forces during a covert operation in Afghanistan, Rambo is compelled to come out of retirement. He sets off on a dangerous solo mission to rescue Trautman from the heavily fortified Soviet base, which is led by Colonel Zaysen (Marc de Jonge), a ruthless officer determined to maintain control over the region.
Rambo teams up with Afghan freedom fighters, known as the Mujahideen, to infiltrate the Soviet stronghold. Armed with his combat skills and guerrilla tactics, Rambo engages in intense battles against the Soviet troops, using everything from bows and arrows to machine guns and helicopters. The film culminates in a climactic rescue mission where Rambo, alongside Trautman, fights his way to freedom, taking on Soviet forces in a series of explosive confrontations
